Our Commitment
Bri Heard Photography is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. We believe that every person deserves equal access to information and services online, and we strive to provide an inclusive digital experience.
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines outline how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We continuously review and improve our website to ensure compliance and usability. When new content is added or existing features are updated, we test for accessibility as part of our development process.

HTML5, CSS3, WAI-ARIA, JavaScript (with progressive enhancement). The website is designed to be compatible with modern assistive technologies including screen readers, magnifiers, and voice control software.

Visual Accessibility
- High-contrast text with a minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio for body text and 3:1 for large text, meeting WCAG AA standards
- Fully resizable text — all content scales gracefully up to 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling or content loss
- Descriptive, meaningful alt text on all images including portfolio work, headshots, and decorative elements
- No content is conveyed through color alone — icons, labels, and patterns supplement color cues
- Clean visual hierarchy using clear heading structure (H1 through H6) for easy scanning
- Sufficient spacing between interactive elements to prevent accidental activation
Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields, menus) are fully operable via keyboard alone
- Visible focus indicators (distinct focus rings) appear on every interactive element when navigated via keyboard
- Logical, intuitive tab order follows the natural reading flow of the page
- Skip-to-main-content link provided as the first focusable element on every page
- Escape key closes modal dialogs, mobile navigation menus, and image lightboxes
- No keyboard traps — users can always navigate away from any component using standard keyboard controls
Screen Reader Compatibility
- Semantic HTML5 elements used throughout (nav, main, header, footer, section, article) for proper document structure
- ARIA landmarks and roles applied to all major page regions (role="banner", role="navigation", role="main")
- ARIA attributes (aria-expanded, aria-controls, aria-label, aria-labelledby, aria-modal, aria-hidden) used on interactive components
- Form fields include associated labels, error messages are programmatically linked to their respective inputs
- Decorative elements are hidden from assistive technology with aria-hidden="true"
- Page titles are unique and descriptive for each page to aid orientation
Motor Accessibility
- All interactive targets meet a minimum 44×44 pixel touch target size on mobile devices
- Adequate spacing between clickable elements prevents accidental activation
- No interactions require complex gestures — all actions can be completed with simple clicks or taps
- Form inputs provide clear, visible boundaries and focus states
- No time-limited interactions — users can complete all tasks at their own pace
Responsive & Mobile
- Fully responsive design adapts to all screen sizes from 320px mobile to large desktop displays
- Content reflows properly in portrait and landscape orientations
- Touch-friendly navigation with appropriately sized buttons and controls
- No horizontal scrolling required at any supported viewport width
- Mobile menu is fully accessible via keyboard and screen readers with proper ARIA attributes
Multimedia
- No auto-playing audio or video content that could disorient users
- No rapidly flashing or strobing content that could trigger seizures (WCAG 2.3.1 compliance)
- Images load with appropriate fallbacks and descriptive text placeholders while loading
- Gallery images include contextual descriptions for screen reader users
Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet fully conform to all accessibility standards. The following areas are known and being actively addressed:
- User-uploaded gallery photos may not always include alt text descriptions. We encourage clients to provide image descriptions when possible, and are working on tools to improve this.
- Some third-party embedded content (such as external payment processors or mapping services) may have accessibility limitations outside of our direct control. We select vendors who prioritize accessibility.
- PDF documents, if offered for download, may not be fully screen-reader compatible. We are working toward providing accessible HTML alternatives for all downloadable content.
Testing & Evaluation
We evaluate accessibility using a combination of methods:
- Automated Testing: Regular scans using accessibility auditing tools to identify and resolve WCAG violations
- Manual Testing: Keyboard-only navigation testing, screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver), and color contrast verification
- Device Testing: Cross-browser and cross-device testing including desktop, tablet, and mobile form factors
- Ongoing Review: Accessibility is reviewed as part of every content update and feature release
